Christianese
Justified |ˈjəstəˌfīd| adjective (generally) having, done for, or marked by a good or legitimate reason: the doctors were justified in treating her. (theology) declared or made righteous in the sight of God. (christianese explained) When we are completely absolved by God from a lifetime of treason, without which every person remains on death row awaiting eternal separation from Him.

“Poured” This is my blood of the covenant which is poured out for many [Mark 14:24] God’s love has been poured into our hearts [Romans 5:5] The Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Christ Jesus [Titus 3:5-6] …grace which He lavished on us [Ephesians 1:7-8] The extravagance with which these things are given to us is of much value, considering the only...

Staff Inflection
I appreciate the authenticity of working with the Reality staff. I feel like I’m working with friends. As good friends should do, mine make sure that I don’t let my job or gifts go to my head. They do this by giving me nicknames instead of flattery! Here are some of the current ones: Lost-o Idiot Menso I thought I had more, but I don’t. You know what they say… pride...

Joseph turning 30 [Genesis 41:23]
I can’t help but imagine what it was like for Joseph to sit in a cell right before his thirtieth birthday, knowing most of his life thus far was spent getting the short end of every deal. Enter grace: God not only intervenes; He redeems… “God has made me forget all my hardship” -Joseph [Gen. 41:51]

The soft-spoken car thief never came back.
Pastor G told me that there are a lot of people roaming Carpinteria high on drugs, and that I shouldn’t give drugged-up transients free reign of my car (for safety reasons, not religious ones). So I locked my car and parked it around the corner. But I left a bag of cookies on the back seat in case he came by and ‘found the window open’ again. :-)

Jesus: “This illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.” [John 11:4] Paul: “Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” [2 Cor. 12:9]

derekthornton asked: Not really an ask, just not enough room on the answer portion. Basically try to help him, but remember Matt 10:16 when the disciples were sent out.
No matter, what this young man has done, he obviously needs Christ in his life whether, homeless or with other motives.

A man broke into my car today.
Right after a grueling morning of missional prayer at Church, Brianna and I pulled into our driveway late tonight, just in time to watch a man in his late 20’s crawl into the back of my 4runner across the street. I knew I had not left the window open, and suspected that he had opened it forcefully himself, so I proceeded with caution to cross the street. I peeked into the back window, and...

grace |grās| noun 1 (theology) the free and unmerited favor of God, as manifested in the salvation of sinners and the bestowal of blessings. 2 (christianese explained) when God in His reckless and bizarre compassion effectively turns you back from the destructive course you keep choosing, and opens your eyes to the pleasure of His infinite worth, without which you would be enticed by something...

“Yet those who intentionally relocate to these communities for the sake of Jesus’ upside-down Kingdom are humiliatingly few. At least 1 out of every 6 missionaries should be moving in to reach out to this, the world’s largest unreached people group. Instead, it is probably more like 1 in 6000 missionaries, just a handful worldwide, who will move into slums.” (kristin jack, former...
